How to Learn the Most about Remodeling Before You Remodel

How-to-Learn-the-Most-about-Remodeling-Before-You-Remodel.jpgYou can do a lot to ensure the success of your Naples-area home remodeling long before you start drawing up the plans. Whether you’re considering a kitchen remodel, thinking about completely remodeling your bathroom, exploring the possibility of adding an addition, or even doing a whole home remodel—the more you prepare yourself for the whole process, the more likely you are to be pleased with the outcome.

The more you understand about what’s involved, the better you’ll understand the bids that you get from remodelers, and to select the right contractor for you. In addition, it will be easier for you to communicate what you want to the people who will be working on your home. So how can you go about educating and informing yourself before you project begins?

Start Online

If you’re like most people these days, you’ll probably begin your search for information online. But the Internet is a vast place. How can you avoid getting lost in your search for information? Houzz.com is a great place to begin. Go to their home page and you can search by specific topics (kitchens, bathrooms, master bedrooms, dining rooms, etc.). Then you can look at plenty of images that will give you ideas. And you can read the comments that people like you add. If you like, you can save ideas that appeal to you in an “Idea Book” and review it later. We even have our own page on houzz.com that features some of the projects we’ve recently completed. By the way, you don’t just have to look at the pictures. You can also read the reviews of people who have worked with a particular remodeler.

You can also check out sites such as Better Homes & Gardens (BHG.com) for ideas. They tend to be a bit more focused on decorating than on remodeling, but that can be valuable as well.  If you want to collect visual images of how people have remodeled, you might want to check out Pinterest.

eBooks are another good source of information when you’re trying to learn about remodeling. These downloadable files are generally free and offer overviews of some of the big questions you may have about remodeling. We offer several eBooks ourselves that tackle different topics. For instance:

Speak to Your Potential Remodeler

One of the best things you can do is to talk directly with your remodeler. Reputable remodelers aren’t going to try to sell you something you don’t want. They’re going to find out what you want and then come up with a plan for achieving your goals within your budget. One of the advantages of working with a design/build remodeler is that the people walking you through the remodeling process and helping you design it are part of the same team that will actually be doing the physical work. They can help you overcome some of the information overload that you’re bound to experience as you research your project.

The more you know about the remodeling process—and the better you understand it—the better your chances are of getting the results you want with your Naples-area remodeling project.
