When you think of the things that contribute to a successful remodeling of your Naples-are home, you probably include things such as great design, quality materials, and superior craftsmanship. You’d be right, of course. But there’s a key element that’s often overlooked in home remodeling—and it’s something that you bring to the table: patience.
There are three areas in particular where your patience is key. Two are in the planning and design stage, and the other is during construction. Let’s take a quick look at why both are so important.
Patience in Planning
A lot of people have very specific reasons for remodeling. Maybe they need more space. Perhaps their current space (whether it’s the kitchen or the family room, or the bathroom) simply isn’t convenient or comfortable. Whatever your reason for remodeling your Naples-area home, you may be anxious to get going so that you can enjoy your home more.
That’s understandable, but to be honest, a lot of the most serious remodeling work begins long before the sawdust starts to fly. Make sure you take the time to think through exactly what you want to accomplish with your remodeling project. Then take the time to talk to a designer about your goals. That enables a designer to create a plan that incorporates elements that not only make your home look better, but function better as well. One of the benefits of using a design-build remodeler is that the same people who help you create the plan will be the ones who execute it. Everybody is on the same page!
Patience in Making Selections
It’s also important to take your time when making the selections for the finishes in your kitchen, bath, or family room. It’s one thing to see great pictures on a website and think you like a particular countertop or faucet. But what will you think when you see it in your home? You don’t need to be in a hurry. Talk to an interior designer about your options, and what works well together. Then go to a place where you can actually get your hands on various samples at one time and see (and feel) if they are really what you want.
Patience with the Process
If you’re like most Naples homeowners, once construction (including tear-out) begins, you’ll be eagerly looking forward to the completed project. But you don’t want to hurry the process. Talk to your project manager up front about a realistic schedule. Then relax and let the work get done. There may be days when there’s not a lot of visual progress being made. It’s OK. Some parts of the process are like that. Resist the temptation to “hurry things along.” If you’re dealing with a seasoned and reputable remodeler, they know what they’re doing. Rushing things can result in mistakes—and tension.
Keep in mind that you’ll be living with the results of your home remodel for a long time. Take the time up front to make sure you’ll enjoy your remodeling results for years to come.
