It’s no secret that Florida is a magnet destination for people looking to retire. In fact, according to MarketWatch, Naples is the 9th most popular retirement destination in the United States, saying, “Naples represents the gold coast of southwest Florida. People who say they don’t like Florida might not have seen this upscale retirement community. Its downtown is as sophisticated as any in the world, but charming too — you can pull up to a five-star hotel’s valet parking, and then walk 50 feet to an old-fashioned bar where you can listen to Irish singers . . .”
Of course, there’s more to retiring to Naples than just hanging out in a sophisticated downtown area. You’ll also want a sophisticated and comfortable place to live. But finding a new home in Naples may be more of a challenge than you think. Rising property prices aren’t exactly making it affordable to build new homes. After all, as Mark Twain once quipped, “ . . . they’re not making any more land.” And sometimes the land that’s available for new building lacks the charm (and convenience) of existing properties. Is there an alternative?
If you’re considering retiring to the Naples area and aren’t sure a new-construction home is in the cards, there is another course to consider. You may want to think about an existing home in the area. But what if it’s not exactly what you had in mind? That’s the beauty of design-build remodeling. You can actually design and remodel a home in an area you want—and end up with something that’s better than new!
How can something be “better than new?” You can find a home that’s in a neighborhood you really like (you’re not required to build where some developer says you have to build). If you happen to like a certain architectural style, you can pick that (instead of what the new dictates). And you have the ability to create a home that fits your specific needs and desires. It’s really the best of both worlds. You get to enjoy an established community or neighborhood and the luxury of living in a home that’s been re-created to your exact specifications.
And if you want to avoid some of the disruption that the remodeling process involves, you can actually remodel your home before you move in. At Reed Design Build, it’s not unusual for us to work on homes when the owners are out of town. As one of our customers told us:
It was very reassuring to have the project completed so efficiently, since I live in Virginia and couldn’t manage the project myself. (You can read her comments, and the comments of other delighted customers here)
If you’re considering retiring to Naples, you don’t have to settle for what you may find. Sometimes what you see is only a foreshadowing of what you can get. We’d love to talk to you about creating a plan that lets you retire in luxury in your “better-than-new” Naples home!
