What’s your motivation for remodeling your Naples home? Generally, homeowners aren’t just looking for a cosmetic change. They’re looking for something more substantial than a new coat of paint or window treatments. They’re looking to make changes that will improve their quality of life while at home. That could include convenience, comfort, energy-efficiency, or even safety.
For some of us the list of things we’d like to do can get lengthy. Chances are you may not be able to do everything you want to do at once, so you’ll have to prioritize. What changes matter most to you when it comes to remodeling your home?
Not long ago, Professional Builder Magazine did a survey of homeowners to determine their highest priorities for home improvements. The results were split a bit depending on the age of the participants. But the number one priority for people surveyed regardless of age) was to have a double sink vanity in the master bath. The second most sought-after improvement was more storage, and the third most important priority was a walk-in, doorless shower.
In the kitchen, the most popular enhancement was the installation of a kitchen island, followed by the creation of a pantry (not a walk-in pantry, however). The third most important item in the kitchen was having a breakfast bar.
When it came to the master bathroom, what homeowners cited as high priorities were curbless showers, steam showers, lighting inside the shower, and increased storage space for linens.
What’s interesting about these survey results is that the vast majority of the priorities focus on comfort and convenience. That’s not to say that style isn’t important. In today’s home designs, however, functionality and practicality are definitely high on the list (and a good designer-remodeler will be able to deliver both functionality and style!).
The big question is:What matters most to you?
Before you spend too much time thinking about materials such as flooring, cabinets, countertop materials, tile, or light fixtures spend some time thinking about what will make you more comfortable in your home.
